- 5 pounds = 3500 x 5 = 17500 calories
- 5 pounds in 30 days = 17500 / 30 = 550 calories per day
The basal metabolism rate will tell you how many calories you body burns everyday for its own functioning. There are a couple of online calculators that can help you figure this out by asking your current weight, gender, age and height.
The BMR will tell you a figure that can be from 1400 to over 2000. Now it's up to you whether you couple this with exercise or not. A moderate level excercise of about 30 minutes a day can help you burn an extra 150-200 calories.
